Basic Ribber Techniques
Ribbing adds a new dimension to machine knitting, but it also creates problems and challenges. Ribbing uses two knitting machines at the same time. The combination of the two machines creates unique patterns and effects which you are not able to do on a single bed machine.
Pre-requisite for ribbing work:
Ribbing without a Ribber
On knitting machines, automatic ribbing (alternating knit and purl stitches) cannot be done without a rib bed (ribber).
This class explores a number of ways a machine knitter can incorporate ribbing in their knitting designs. Try hand manipulating (reforming) stitches, mock rib, or even blending hand knitting with machine knitting. These methods are invaluable tools for every machine knitter! Brother 970
The 970 was the last electronic machine made by Brother. The electronics were moved from being contained in the knitting machine (as in previous models) to the CB-1 Box.
The CB-1 box is a removable mini-computer that offered more functionality and an easier-to-use interface. In addition to stitch patterns, the CB-1 box includes garment shaping. This series of tutorials is designed to take the mystery out of the symbols and steps for controlling your knitting machine electronically. Community Knitting
Community Knitting is a great way to help those in need and to polish your knitting skills, try new techniques and use up your yarn stash!
This class covers techniques that speed up your knitting and can be used for all of your knitting projects. Cut N Sew - Introduction
The Cut ‘n Sew method of shaping is very useful for machine knitters.
Garment Bands
Knitting garments with bands does not have to cause headaches.
This class covers the concept of calculating the correct stitch counts for your yarn and gauge and offers you practice to improve your techniques. The math is minimal, and the extra time is worth it to have neat, professional looking garment bands on cardigans, necklines and armholes. Knitting Machine Basic Techniques
This classroom is intended to give students working experience through repetitious drills with an introduction of new techniques at the same time. This has proven to be effective.
Even brand new students who have not seen a knitting machine have rapidly learned to handle their knitting machine expertly. The Magic Formula (Diophantine Equation)
Since the time you first began knitting, or maybe even before, you probably have wondered how someone calculates even increments such as those needed in charting a pattern.
Here are a series of tutorials that will help you understand the Magic Formula and give you practice in putting it into use. Mid-Gauge and Bulky Techniques
Written for the Bulky Machines, the tutorials and exercises in this class apply to any non-patterning machine. (Any machine without punchcards or electronics)
It covers stitch patterns, Charting Devices (knit radar, knit leader, etc), shaping while knitting in pattern and more. After the Knit it Now Class "Knitting Machine Basic Techniques", this is the most valuable class in the Knit it Now Learning Library. Pattern Knitting Techniques
Punch Card machines allow you to knit a wide variety of pattern stitches with great speed and ease. This is true only if you have learned to operatate your machine correctly.
You must understand the mechanism of your machine, the relationship between the needle positions, cam levers, and buttons. You must learn to follow the correct procedures and practice each machine set-up until you can do it automatically. This classroom is intended to give students working experience through repetitious drills with an introduction of new techniques at the same time. Even though it is written for punch card machines, the information is essential to electronic machines as well. Pattern Printing Options in DesignaKnit 7
