Any ideas for a replacement for the wire insert for a ribber cast on comb?

Googling suggests

or they seem to come up on eBay quite frequently.  Andee Knits has them in the UK.

I had a long blocking wire with a bead on one end, fits perfectly and just cut it to fit!

I must try that!  The wire on one of my combs is so fine it is really difficult to handle.  I know my blocking wires are more substantial - I am currently using one as a replacement radio aerial! - so will have to see if they will fit in the comb.

This is a place that breeds those "why didn't I think of that?" moments!

I have used a guitar string. G string. You can buy one at a music store. Ask for medium or even heavy gauge, not wound. Trim to fit.
