Machines with Thread Lace settings:
With the appropriate Cam/Carriage settings, both threads will knit together (as in plaiting), but the fine yarn will knit singly and form "lace holes" with no floats.
This is a great alternative to transferred lace. The sample used a white sewing thread. A more "invisible" choice would be to use a transparent filament, like those used by quilters.
Machines without Thread Lace settings:
The appearance of thread lace can be created using a fine "thread" for the 2nd color of a fairlisle pattern. Unlike machines with a Thread Lace setting, floats will be formed as normal fairisle.
