Create a lifeline so if you need to rip out some knitting, you have a starting row.



This concept is borrowed from the hand knitting world, where knitters will often add a lifeline while knitting lace. If a mistake is made it's easy to rip back and start the lace sequence again.

Machine knitters can quickly use lifelines anywhere. It is often used before shaping armholes and necklines, the habit of adding a lifeline can prevent disaster!
