Type of fiber is also to be considered too. The same thickness of say, wool or cotton knits differently on say, the standard or midguage. Especially noticeable when knitting linen.
Nancy M
my sister is a weaver and she wonders why knitters put up with balls and skeins and all those ends to work in
Annie L

As a beginner, I need to practice techniques in the yarn I want to use. Unraveling it isn't always an option, as I can bet up the yarn. How much extra is a good idea?
Dee Z
Unsure if you mentioned this but there is a calculation you can do based on the swatch and determining the inches of the finished pieces of the item you are making to get the approximate yarn needed.
Nancy M
check Ebay for extra single balls in you lot #

Wouldnt using every other needle on standard end up being a bulky 9?
