Socks are a great summer project. Consider devoting a rainy day to mastering socks on the machine.
If you are a new knitter, stick with the basics, one color, short row toes and heels. As you gain confidence add other heel and toe methods and play with adding stitch patterns.
More experienced? Try seamless socks in the round with your ribber.

No matter what machine you have, you can knit socks!

Kim W

Kim W
thank you
Silvia O
I’ve just sent you some flat bed socks by mail.
Nancy M
Kim, how do you like the pushbutton patterning.
Kim W
thank you Nancy I am not alone
Nancy M
I've got one.
Nancy M
Kim, that ribber was considered as uncoordinated. Its a Brother (turquoise case) and you first pass the main carriage across then the ribber.
Nicola P
I bought this book from you. I love it
Terry S
I start at the cuff and knit in the round...take it off before the toe and hand knit the toe with decreases. That way, I can get the perfect length for the sock.
Kim W
very onld machine profile kh 551 and kr 552 the ribber is not profile and it does not have a connecting arm between knitter and ribber
Nancy M
I've done shortrow toes and heels....usually shortrowing down to about 1/3 of the toe or heel stitches to prevent square heels
Kim W
problem in the round i have to knit by hand the rib. I love th 1 seam to up or cuff down now i am trying to do pattern
Joy G
Annie, my Singer 624 has, there are 3 or 4 settings :)
Nancy M
be sure you swatch in the round. no guessing
Nicola P
H pitch. That’s a good idea that sounds like it might help
Annie L
Do machines with ribbers have any adjustment for the distance between beds?
Maurie H
Start from the top with ribbing, then go to knitting in the round all the way to the toe and all you have to do is kitchener stitch the toe, and one small seam at the ribbing.
Mary Ann B
I just saw a suggestion this AM to knit using H pitch which shortens the space between the beds.
Darlene S
sounds like an art
Mary Ann B
I often finish my socks by doing the ribbing on circular needles by hand.
Bettina B
Have to try the afterthought heel, shortrowing with the ribber i tried, that was not fun.
Nicola P
Might I be using too much weight?
Joy G
The tension can be different on both beds
Nicola P
When knitting in round I always find the end stitches are a little loose and visible.
Marjorie M
A sale machine is!
Marjorie M
Yay! A place figur out what gauge a mys
Dawn W
Will you have a database submission form?
Joy G
I have a vintage machine too lol...
Priscilla D
Wonderful concept, keep it going, please.
Maurie H
Great for I have all Silver Reed, and I do have cheat sheets.
Marja S
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nicola P
Wow What a task you’ve set yourself. The cheat sheets will be so helpful
Bettina B
That cheat sheet would also become handy for translating a pattern from one brand to the own machine.
Nancy M
that's like the quick start sheets that come with so many new appliances.
Brenda W
that's an awesome idea!
Darlene S
cheat sheets,,, so awesome
Bettina B
that project sounds terriffic:
Annie L
Do you want to know what machines and accessories we have???

Nancy M

When I do lace socks I start at the cuff with ribbing then do my lace pattern once I get to the ankle I go to knitting in the round.
Margaret G
I like that idea of "let it roll"
Joy G
I always do this in the other direction, or in the round :)
