Meet Susan Lazear, Professor of Fashion at Mesa College, in San Diego, California.
Susan is the developer of software that is very popular with machine knitters.

Cochenille Garment Designer
This pattern making program allows you to create patterns for both sewing and knitting. It includes libraries of ready-to-wear body measurements, or you can input your own measurements to create a more custom fit. While you work, you can see the shape of your body (the sloper) sitting inside the pattern you are building.
Cochenille Stitch Painter
Design your own stitch patterns with this fabulous grid-based design tool is specifically geared to the needs of textile and craft designers of all sorts and we made it so user-friendly.
You may print directly from Stitch Painter or export in standard formats

How does the program work with using stitch patterns, for example, lace where you need to knit rows for transferring stitches.
Vanessa W
When I’ve used a yoke the line doesn’t go all the way across a garment.
Eileen B

Patricia H

Sue J
@patricia - yes, weight an measure is one way to establish how much yarn you need. Her software allows you to estimate this with the exact number of stitches in a piece
Meg
Please cover darts, thanks
Sue J
I'll put her links in our show notes when this presentation is over
Pauline P

Sheila G
Can the software be installed on more than one computer
Celine L
Merci Maurie H de ton intervention.

What if you start with a PC version then switch to Mac? Do you have to purchase everything all over?
Sue J
vanessa does that answer your question?
Maurie H
is this in different languages, Celine wants ot know if it can be used in French?
Vanessa W
Is there a way to make a front piece in multiple pieces? For example if I wanted a separate midriff piece? I’ve tried using a yoke but don’t think I’m using it correctly.
Maurie H

Wonder what the knit output looks like. More design options than DAK.
Marjorie M
Certainly with all the bells and whistles of her demo version it has vast design possibilities. Wonder
Patricia D
Thanks
Sue J
@ patricia - yes it does include children's sizes
Patricia D
Does it accommodate children’s sizes?
Sue J
lol
Pauline P
I forgot to add - except for KIN - now that's perfect!
Pauline P
Like everything I guess! Nothing's perfect!
Sue J
they all have pros and cons
Pauline P
Looks interesting. I guess it comes down to personal preference whether Susan's, KIN or DAK 9 programmes.
Sue J

Maryann B

Sue J
I'll ask
Maryann B
Susan and I were members of MKGSFBA along with a woman named Helen in the mid 80's. Helen wrote a knitting program on the Atari which Susan helped her to port to the Mackintosh, PC and the Atari. I cannot remember Helen's last name and Susan may be the last person to answer that question.
Sara B
What about ribbed welts etc if part of the garment?
Sue J
I'll ask @susan b
Susan B
Are there any updates since I bought the program several years ago?
Sue J
@pauline - yes it is different. all of them produce knitting patterns, just different ways of approaching it
Sue J
Susan is offering 10% off all of her products
Pauline P
Is Susan's programme different to KIN patters and/or DAK9?
Lutgarde D
