. . Thank you for joining me. for this month's Live.. . Let's get started.. . Our Shortrow Classroom.. Knititnow.. . Com/shortrows.. . Our classrooms are a. collection of everything. . on the site on a specific topic.. . So you might find patterns,. you might find video replays,. . or you might find tutorials.. . You will find tutorials.. . You will find quick wins.. . What else is there?. . Blog posts.. . Anything having to do with short. rows you can find in the classroom.. . So it's a great place if you're. looking for a specific topic to start.. . Instead of searching through the whole. site, hit the classroom. . and see what's there.. . And if I've missed something,. please just let me know.. . So this video will also,. the replay of this video will also be. . up in the classroom when it's done.. . Short rows.. What are short rows?. . Okay, before I start there,. I do want to start with one thing. . that we're talking about that I want. to talk about here before we even get deep. . into short rows, because I'm. going to get carried away today.. . I can tell you that right now.. . I'll warn you right now.. . We just came up with a new feature called. our Monthly Recap, and our Monthly Recap. . is a way for you to go back and see all. of the content that we have. . created over periods of time.. . I realized recently that we have blog. posts and we have machine knitables,. . and we have tips of the week,. and we have these lives,. . and we have all the stuff in our glossary. and so many things going on,. . and it's so easy to miss things.. . I might tell you about something cool. and neat that's happened or that you can. . try, and six weeks will go by,. and I'm like, Where was that?. . I can't find it.. I don't know what to do.. . So we do have this new feature.. . Let me show you on my desktop here,. the monthly recap.. . And it's under Knit Club,. and it's monthly recap here.. . And we took it all the way back to .. . Nobody wants to talk about ,. but we did do some things in ,. . even though we were all locked down.. . In the different areas of different months. here, we can go ahead and scroll through. . and you can see the blog posts,. you can see the the knittables,. . what was featured in that month.. . So it's just yet another way of being able. to find content that was published at Knit. . It Now, and you might not be able to.... . You wanted it, you wanted to save it,. so you don't want to just save a URL or. . place a bookmark on your own computer.. . You can come back to the Recaps here.. . So again, it's under Knit Club. and Monthly Recaps,. . and you can see them all right here.. . Now, another thing that we did recently. that I want to share with you is let's go. . to the Learning Library,. and we I have a tip of the week,. . let's say this tip of the week,. and this is one that I really. . like and I want to go back to it.. . I'm just not ready to work with it just. now, but in the future,. . I want to go back to this particular tip,. this particular tutorial.. . There is a Right here,. there is a pin, push pin.. . I guess that's what it's called,. a push pin that you can click.. . Click the push pin,. and then when you go back to the learning. . library, you can go to your own personal. learning library, and anything that you've. . pinned Here's my Fisherman rib.. It's right here.. . Anything that you've pinned will. be in your personal library.. . Now, there was a little. bit of confusion about it.. . There was a little bit of confusion. about the personal library.. . It is in each section,. has its own personal library.. . So this is the learning library,. has your own personal thing. . in your learning library.. . Patterns, you can save yourself.. Let me see.. . Go back to the blog.. . The blog also has. pushpins so that you can check off one. . that you might want to keep and it'll. have your own personal library.. . Let me see what else is there.. . Skill builders, learning. library in the glossary.. . You have a personal. library in the glossary.. . Maybe you want to remember. what half double crochet is.. . Go ahead and click that little push pin. and in your personal library.. . So there isn't one. generic personal library.. . It is in each one of the sections for you. to easily go back and find. . things that you liked.. . Turn the pin on and off.. Okay, I got it.. . I got it.. . I know what Fisherman Rib is,. so take that one-off.. . And you can just unclick it. and you can take that off.. . Okay, so that was my commercial. for the morning here, so let's. . start talking about short rows.. . Let me check in with everybody here.. . Terry's from Alabama,. Doris from Bantree, Ireland.. . Welcome, Doris, we got people. from all over the world.. . Thank you.. . If I miss your question here in the chat,. please either chime in and ask. . again or contact me after.. . I just don't want to miss you.. . Sometimes they go through pretty quickly.. . And Matt's saying, wait.. . I don't know why he's saying, wait.. . Maybe I've done something wrong.. Anyways, Joy.. . Hi from France.. Hi, Joy.. . All righty, let's take. a look here at our outline.. . Short Rows.. Classroom.. . Knittednow.. . Com/shortrows.. . Everything you might want to know. about short rows is in there.. . What are short rows?. . Short rows are the ability to knit It,. . partial knitting, is another name for it.. . You've got stitches on your needle. bed, and you knit across,. . and you need stitches.. . What if you want to add some shaping. to your garment, or you want to add some. . interest, some different texture,. change directions, maybe some angles.. . We'll talk about all the different ways. you can use short rows,. . but how do you make them?. . There's two features.. . There's two things that determine whether. you're going to knit across needles or. . maybe you're only going to knit across . needles and then knit back,. . and then needles, and then knit back,. and then needles,. . and then knit back to add some. texture dimension to your knitting.. . So So two things.. . One are the needle positions.. . Needle positions, hold position.. . You'll hear we talk about hold position.. . Your pattern may say,. put left , right into hold.. . That just means pull all of those. needles out all the way out.. . Maybe D position, E position,. or F position on your machine.. . Whatever it is, pull those. needles all the way out.. . The second thing is now having all those. needles out, if you set your carriage. . to hold, it will not knit those needles.. . So again, needles on a needle bed,. pull out all the way,. . set your carriage to hold, knit across,. you'll knit stitches, and you'll pass. . over those needles that are in hold.. . We'll talk more about why and how and what. results you get, but that's. . the basis of partial knitting.. . It is the needle position. and the carriage setting.. . What is the carriage setting?. . Every machine has a little bit. different setting for their carriage.. . Lk knitters will see that they've got. Russell levers on either side,. . and you can engage your Russell Levers,. either right or left or both.. . Other Silver Reed machines. also have Russell Levers.. . This one happens to have its. Russell Levers on the front.. . So if you're working on different. machines, sometimes it's good. . to just mark your machine.. . I saw a gal the other day who had taken. little sticky notes and put them on each. . one of the settings of her. machine so she could remember.. . And I know I have a hard time.. . I've gone to the fact,. you actually probably will see my LK,. . I've got an H right on the carriage. because I could never remember. . where the Russell levers were.. . Brother machines have a little slider. that set your carriage to hold.. . Most of the Brother machines that I've. used will only hold in both directions.. . You don't have the choice of holding. in one direction or the other, but it. . really just depends on your machine.. . So you need to figure out what is hold. on your machine, whether it's D, E, or F.. . Get those needles all the way out and use. the hold position on your carriage.. . Now, what happens when we put our needles. in hold and we set the carriage to hold?. . Let's think about it. just real quickly here.. . Our needles have.... . I don't know whether you can see how well. you can see that, but our. . needles have a butt, right?. . All of our needles have. the needle butt sticking up.. . And that needle butt travels. through channels under the carriage.. . If you have your machine set for hold. . position and your needles are all the way. . out, those needle butt were going. to travel through a the channel,. . a straight channel,. and they will not do anything.. . Normally, when needles knit, they'll go in. and out picking up yarn to form stitches.. . But if we want to not form stitches and we. don't want to do anything,. . we can either put our needles all the way. back in A position,. . which also means that the needlebutts are. going to go through a straight channel. . and not move in and out,. or put them in hold,. . which will also go through a straight. channel and they will not go. . in and out and form stitches.. . So it's just something to keep in mind. that the mechanics under your carriage. . takes the two steps, needles all the way. out and your carriage setting to hold.. . On this little drawing here,. you can see those channels.. . If it's going through the curvy channel,. the needles are going to go. . in and out and form stitches.. . If they travel through a straight channel,. they're not going to knit.. . So that's the mechanics of short rows.. . But why do we want to use short rows?. . One of the reasons we want. to use short rows is for fit.. . Our bodies are rounded and curvy, right?. . Some of us more curvy than others.. . However, we aren't stick straight,. and we're not making pillow. . covers for a square pillow, right?. . We are making things for bodies,. or we're not really making blankets.. . If we want to make something other than. blankets and scarves and just straight. . panels that don't have any dimension. to them at all, we want to use short rows.. . So we use short rows for fit.. . One of the reasons would. be for bust starts.. . We need some extra fabric over the girls,. or maybe over a pregnant tummy,. . or maybe a pump in the back here or. whatever,. . we are curved and we want to be able to. . form our fabric so that it can form to our. . bodies, not just with the stretchiness. of knits, but with the actual construction. . of the fabric that we're creating.. . And yes, we're working with knits,. but just think about this,. . the addition of bust arts can really,. really improve your knitting.. . And I've got a number of examples. in the learning library about bust. . arts and why they improve your fit.. . And if you're not convinced,. if I haven't convinced you,. . bust arts are one way to use short rows. to improve the fit of your garments.. . Another reason to use short row shaping,. very common reason to use short row. . shaping for fit, are shoulder slopes.. . Again, our bodies are not square.. . My shoulders are definitely not square.. . I'm really, really have sloped shoulders.. . And if I think about it,. if I knit just a piece that's going to fit. . across like this, there's going. to be too much fabric here, right?. . So I'm going to want to shape. that shoulder a little bit so. . that it fits, my garments fit better.. . Short row shaping for shoulders. is very, very common.. . Shaped shoulders, all of our patterns.. . I'm going to say all of our patterns have. the option to add shaped. . shoulders so you don't have wings.. . Nobody wants wings.. . And even though we have knits and knits. conform to our body,. . it'll fit so much better if you. shape your garment with short rows.. . I threw in another little commercial here.. . One of the things that we've been. working on is learndesigninit.. . Com.. . If you're not familiar with it,. this is a sister site of Knit It Now,. . and we're making some really really. major changes to learndesigninit.. . Com.. So if you use Designinit, stay tuned.. . I think I just sent out an email recently. asking you what if you use Designinit,. . what your challenges are and what you'd. like to see, We're in the midst of. . making some major changes over there.. . So please help us out.. . If you use Designinit and could use some. help, and there's something that we. . can do to help you, please let me know.. . End of commercial.. . No more commercials, I promise.. . Another reason for using short rows.. . One was for fit, to get fabric. over our curves and get them. . to mold to the curves of our body.. . Well, how about construction?. . Just construction ideas. for using short rows.. . We want to do any curves at all,. like shirt tail hems or the front of.... . This is a vest with. with curved front edges.. . Why not?. We can use short rows for this.. . We don't have to knit squares.. . This is construction as well.. . I mentioned shoulder shaping before.. . A lot of times when you're knitting. shoulders, the instructions might be. . something like bind off. six stitches every other row three times.. . Well, if you're binding off six stitches,. you're going to bind off and you're going. . to have a row, and then you're going. to bind off and you're going to have. . a row, you're going to have a bind off. and you're going to have a row,. . and you're going to end up with stair. steps, which nobody wants stair steps.. . You can't sew those things together.. . Use short rows.. . We've got a number of tutorials about. that as well in the learning library.. . Being able to short row your shoulders.. . You're going to short row your shoulders,. fix those shoulders so. . that they fit better.. . But also in finishing,. you can put the two seams together.. . When you're using short rows,. you end up with live stitches that you can. . join, so you're not trying to seam. stair steps.. . So construction is one. reason to use short rows.. . How about just for fun?. . There's lots of fun things. that you can do with short rows.. . Here's one is this spiky scarf.. . This was by knit One, and it's just. . a really fun way of knitting partial rows.. . And as you can see, she's not. knitting over needles.. . She's knitting over a few needles,. making those dragon's teeth and knitting. . another set of dragon's teeth,. another set of dragon's teeth.. . I love this scarf, and I've often thought. that that particular look of those. . dragon's teeth or those spikes sticking. out would be great for a pillow.. . Not so big, but just smaller spikes. and have them randomly put all. . over a pillow top for some texture.. . I thought that would always be really fun.. . So that's always been one. on the back of my mind.. . Pauline.. . Yeah, certainly Pauline,. I will definitely do that.. . Remind me, I will write that down.. . Anybody who's on our design. the Knitted Knitted Mailing List. . should have gotten that.. . I'll probably will send it to our whole. Knitted Now email list as well,. . but I really am interested in knowing what. you want to talk about as far. . as design and it is concerned.. . So just for fun, I You mentioned. no joggies on the shoulders.. . How about construction using short row for. construction for no joggies in a neckline?. . You're making a round neckline and it's. going to say, cast off,. . bind off the center stitches,. and then bind off three stitches. . every other row four times.. . Again, you're going to have joggies,. and it's going to be really. . hard to pick up that neckline.. . Use short row shaping,. and you can pick up stitches to then. . finish off your neckline. without having joggies there.. . My favorite place to use it. is the top of a sleeve cap.. . Set in sleeves, also going to have odd. numbers of stitches and rows to bind,. . stitches to bind off to create a curve.. . Any time you're creating a curve,. think about short row shaping.. . Now, with sleeve caps,. you may need to fudge a little,. . fudge your pattern a little, because. most patterns aren't going to be written.. . Short rows can only be. worked every other row.. . Think about it.. . We've got needles on the bed.. . We put needles in hold.. . We knit across, we hold, we come back,. we put more needles in knit across, hold,. . come back, knit across,. hold, and come back.. . We're doing it every other row.. . So if you're trying to avoid joggies,. either in a neckline or the top of it,. . anytime you've got a curve,. you need to do it every other row.. . So you may need to fudge your pattern. a little bit, but I give you permission. . to do because it's sure worth it. to use short rows to avoid the joggies.. . Okay, here we go with the DAK emails.. . Thank you, guys.. Matt will take care of that.. . I think we'll send it. to the whole list again.. . This time Matt will just copy that one.. Thanks.. . Okay, how about short rows for circles?. . Yes, we can knit circles. on the knitting machine.. . Here's a pinwheel circle. that's very easy to do.. . This particular pillow top,. I think it was a pillow top.. . It could be a Christmas tree skirt.. . It could be a skirt skirt,. for heaven's sakes.. . Something nice and flowy.. . Start at one side and just. knit these wedges.. . Put these wedges at the top of a hat,. for example, or knit a hat sideways.. . Lots and lots and lots of ways that you. can use short rows for construction.. . Okay, so last night I went I was going. through these slides and I had diagonals. . here, and I had the worst. photo ever of diagonals.. . It was an untruth.. . It wasn't deliberate.. . I just wasn't thinking. when I put it together.. . So what I did was take a picture. of something that I'm working on.. . I told you that I was hand-knitting short. rows, and I'm making a scarf,. . and I'm not sure if you can see,. self-striping yarn.. . And all I'm doing is knitting wedges. back and forth using short rows.. . We'll definitely do this.. . Coming soon, we'll be doing. this on the knitting machine.. . I'd love to try and do it on the double. bed so that you don't. . have any curled edges.. Everybody hates curled edges, whatever.. . But this is just an idea for short rows,. another construction. . method for short rows.. . We have a pattern called. the Sideways Hat a duo.. . And this sideways hat. is knit with short rows.. . It is knit sideways,. . obviously, and it is a way of getting. . rid of the bulk at the top of a hat.. . We do all sorts of things to get. rid of the bulk at the top of a hat.. . We knit wedges, we knit circles, we do. . decreases, we do all kinds of fun things.. . But this sideways hat is one option so. . that you can knit this sideways hat. . in short rows, and it shapes that top.. . So it gives your top of your head. without all that bulk at the top.. . Now, picture this.. . This is a hat, but picture it.. . You can make a ball, right?. . You can make a child's. ball by using short rows.. . Short row both sides at the same time,. and you end up with a nice form for a ball. . or stuff it for a round. pillow if you want.. . Lots of uses for short. rows for construction.. . Another way is with godets.. . Let me find something here.. . Godets or gussets.. . I've got a picture of a thumb.. . I didn't have a thumb. here, but a mitten here.. . But let's think about mittons.. . We got mittons, we're going to want to put. a thumb on this, but we've got all. . of this area right in here to fill in.. . We'll use short rows to come back and back. and back and increasing, increasing,. . increasing, increasing, increasing. . I just saw a sweater not too long ago.. . Silhouette Patterns.. . Peggy at Silhouette Patterns. has a newer pattern out that's so cute.. . It has. princess seams, which we probably stay. . away from as machine knitters,. but it is a fitted top.. . And then at the waist, she's put a peplum.. . So it's just all roughly around the edges.. . And I should have gotten. a picture of it for you.. . I'm sorry, I didn't.. . But that could be worked with short rows.. . Same way with ruffles.. . So many things.. . I'll show you some more.. . While I'm thinking about short rows,. I like to picture them this way.. . You're knitting a a full width,. your needles, your needles,. . whatever, and then you're going back. and forth and only knitting. . part of those stitches.. . Partial knitting.. . Same thing, you can do it over a lot. of stitches, you can do it over a few. . stitches, but you can do it on both sides.. . Thinking about both sides,. so you're wide here down at the bottom. . and you're going narrow to the top.. . When would that come in handy?. . How about socks?. . Sock, toes, and heels.. . I thought I had it.. Sorry.. . Let me show you some Sock, toe, and heels.. . Let me get there.. . We're going to go to Learn and Classrooms.. . Learn and Classrooms.. . Let's go down to our Short Rows Classroom.. . Sh, Sue, there it is.. . All about short rows.. . Flowers.. How about some short row flowers?. . We talked about circles.. . I actually use short rows. to knit a heart shape.. . So keep in mind that partial And this. special knitting is going to give you that. . dimension and shaping. that you're looking for.. . Sock, toes,. and heels are one of the primary ways. . that most people know. about knitting Short rows.. . Let's see if I can find.. . Here looks like a toe, right?. . So if we go back, think about our little. drawing there where we had all the needles. . in work, maybe needles in work,. and then we short-wrote on each side down. . to a point or less than a point,. and we get this nice little. . pocket for sock toes and heels.. . We talked about some quick wins,. the short row flowers.. . How about a whole shal here?. . You worked with short rows.. . I believe this was a full needle bed,. and then I just short rowed down. . and short rowed back up again.. . And what was nice about it was it gave me. . a nice little seam, not exactly a seam,. . but a decorative touch here that could be. used anywhere, just even on the front. . of a sweater or anywhere.. . You could use this idea. for angles, creating angles.. . So that's in our classroom,. and it's talking more about. . More fun stuff with short rows between. socks, shoulders, bus darts,. . all the normal things we do, but there's. a lot of other fun things we do.. . Just put some flowers on things.. . Just really, really, really,. really easy, those flowers.. . Cheri says, Knitted and crocheted flowers. are really popular. . with the handwork groups.. Absolutely.. . And the flowers that we have there.... . Where am I?. . The flowers that we have are. a really, really easy one.. . I can tell you real quickly.. . All you do with that flower is you cast. on a wide piece and you knit a few rows,. . and then you start short row shaping. it so that you've got a wider piece.. . You're going to end up with a. triangle wide at one side and down,. . down, down, down, down So easy.. So take a look for the flower one.. . That's a quick win,. as a matter of fact, on the website.. . All right, let's talk a little. bit more practicality here.. . On that shal that I showed you,. it had some holes, right?. . Think about what happens. when you're short rowing.. . You've got stitches on the bed. and you put some of them in hold.. . You knit across your yarn goes across. those needles that are in hold,. . and you knit back.. . So your machine knows not. to knit those other stitches.. . It just travels across and comes back.. . But what happens when it comes back?. . You're going to end up with a gap.. . There's going to be a hole where that yarn. comes back and starts knitting. . the needles that you want to have knit.. . We overcome these gaps.. . Normally, you want to have sock toes.. . You don't want holes. in your sock toes, right?. . You don't want holes at your shoulders.. . You don't want holes in your. bus darts, for heaven's sakes.. . You want to prevent the holes by wrapping.. . So we're saying wrapping no holes unless. you want them, unless you want them as. . a decorative touch because they. do create a nice eyelid for you.. . There are two methods of preventing holes. by using automatic wrap or manual wrap.. . These are just two techniques.. . Both do this, accomplish. basically the same thing.. . I think I did a study,. and I'm sure it's in that classroom,. . a study of which one works better. And truthfully,. . I like manual wrap,. and you see me demonstrate I'm. . always going to manual wrap.. . For some reason in my brain, I cannot. get my head around automatic wrap.. . It's just a mental thing, I think.. Automatic wrap.. . Let's say your instructions say to hold. to short row four stitches. . every other row five times.. . With automatic wrap,. you're going to pull three needles. . into hold first and then pull. the fourth needle into hold.. . To me, that just doesn't. make any sense at all.. . And if you don't know what I'm talking. about, take a look at the two videos. . that are in the classroom,. automatic wrap versus manual wrap, and see. . what you think, and try it both ways.. . As a matter of fact, I just created,. and I don't know if I hit the release. . button on it or not, but I just created. a new skill builder on short row shaping.. . Maybe if you could take a look and see. if I want I'm going to head and.... . I finished it this morning,. and I don't know if I turned it. . on or not, but I can take a look.. . So a skill builder that will give you some. exercises to practice short row shaping.. . Automatic wrap,. manual wrap, and leaving holes.. . So please check out that skill builder. before you even start thinking about using. . short rows or before you start knitting. that sweater and the sweater tells. . you to short row the shoulders.. . Come on, learn how to do it before. you start knitting that sweater.. . And I don't want to get up. on my soapbox, so let's move on.. . Pauline says she's been doing some short. row shaping practice this week,. . and she prefers manual wrap, too.. . And Pauline, I don't know whether it's. just because of the numbering thing,. . and I have this thing with numbers.. . So if it tells me to put four needles. in hold, I want to put four needles. . in hold, not three and then one.. . But But I'm sure there's a ton of people. who are going to disagree. . with me about that one.. . So automatic wrap versus manual wrap,. please check out the challenge.. . The challenges are a premium member bonus.. . They are designed so that you can just. check Short-Row Skill Builders is. . active and ready for everybody.. . Let's go there and just take a really. quick look at. . It's under Learn, Skill Builders,. . and these are organized by the skill. . levels in our success path.. . And I believe I put it in shaping.. . I should have put it in shaping.. . Did I not put it in shaping?. . I put it in stitch patterns.. . It was early this morning.. . I hadn't had my coffee yet.. . But let's take a look at our. Short Rows Skill Builder.. . Again, three sets of three exercise sizes,. cast on so many stitches,. . knit so many rows.. . Do this, do this,. do this, do this, do this.. . Bind off.. And what do you think?. . Try automatic.. Do it a little bit different way.. . Cast on the same number of stitches.. . Try automatic wrap.. . And when you're comparing the two,. it's going to be hard to get. . your head around them.. . But focus and try both ways so. that you can see what you like.. . And with our Skill Blers,. you can always upload your images.. . So create yourself a little binder.. . Today, on this X day, I practiced. short row shaping with manual wrap.. . This is what it looked like.. . Put some notes in, take a picture of it,. and put it up in your own manual binder,. . your own digital binder. instead of a manual binder.. . Years ago, we used to put everything in,. and some people still do,. . put them in a plastic sheet protector.. . The little swatches that we make,. put them in a plastic sheet protector. . so that you can refer back to them.. . Well, this is .. . Let's do a digital binder.. . The third exercise in this. challenge are eyelids.. . We can add some eyelids,. so don't do any wrapping.. . Just do the same exercise. and don't do any wrapping.. . So skill builders should be very useful. for you, and there's. . a brand new one there.. . There is also a skill. builder on shaping shoulders.. . So the focus on that one is short row. shaping and then joining. . the shoulders neatly.. . So if that's something that's interesting. to you or if you've had shoulders. . that didn't work out quite right,. there's a skill builder there for you.. . All right.. Thanks, Matt.. . Well, here's another fun. one that I didn't mention.. . This goes with last month's blankets.. . This is Susanna's blanket,. and it is, you can see by the drawing. . here how it's constructed.. . What I like about it is that you can. knit a really, really wide blanket.. . Those two sections on either side could be. the full width of your needle bed,. . and you're using short rows. in order to form this shape.. . So this is a fun one,. especially with self-striping yarn.. . This is called Susanna's blanket.. . Thanks, Matt.. . All right, so in conclusion,. why do we want to learn how to do short. . rows or master short. rows and understand them.. . We can use them for shaping to make. our garments fit our bodies.. . And even if you're not knitting sweaters,. maybe you're knitting a shal.. . And I don't know about you,. but most shals just fall right off these. . slope little shoulders of mine.. . So you could make a shal and put some. shaping in those shoulders so that it. . will fit and hang nicely on your body.. . Just so many different ways that you can. use short row shaping in order to get. . things to fit, in order to manipulate that. fabric so that it fits over our curves.. . We use short row shaping for construction,. to get rid of the joggies,. . for making Shasana's blanket for all. the different ways that you. . can use partial knitting.. . You're only going to knit across part. of the row and then knit back,. . and part of the row and then knit back.. . Lots and lots and lots of options.. . And Also playing with color.. . This scarf that I'm making,. I'm playing with color.. . I'm mixing up this self-striping yarn,. and it's a lot more interesting. . than just plain old stripes.. . And you You could just use different. colors, not even self-striping yarn.. . You could make a yellow. triangle and a green triangle and a blue. . triangle and a red triangle and a brown. triangle, whatever,. . and really mix them up.. .
