Butterfly Stitch patterns
Takeaway from today's show:
Intarsia - blocks of isolated color without any floats (think of a large circle on the front of a sweater or color blocks) - Individual Strands of yarn.

Fairisle - Stitch pattern with floats carried across the work. The motif may be isolated and you may need to wrap the edge stitches so there are no holes (like intarsia), but because the yarn is stranded across the back of the motif, it's Fairisle. (Think of a large, isolate rose motif)

One long swatch with different techniques is so informative to see what happens with width and le
Amybeth D
Thank you!
Kim W
Thank you
Dee Z.
so much fun, thank you Sue!
Phyllis K D
Leo, what I do in my area (which is also a MK desert), is to have friends over who do hand knitting or crochet. But yeah, it would be great to have another machine knitter around.

map
Maria Ann Y
You have verified it for me
Maria Ann Y
Thanks! I thought that there was a row difference for the starting point.
Kim W
Hello thank you for the help with my profile kh552 and ribber kr551. I tried the ribber and completed a little swatch. is this the only machine that does not have the connection? can I use another ribber that does connect? Again Thanks for the help
seejaneknit
so the difference is the row # 1 may read differently from Brother to Studioer to Studio??
Leo B
I stared learning knitting with the beginer's bootcamp. As I am a sole knitter in my region. It gets lonely sometimes.
Wilma T
I have the instructions in print
Betty E J
is it free if you already purchased the beg workshop?
Wilma T
Beverly, it was called a stitch master to fit on the ribber kr830 or kr850
seejaneknit
OMG - see one another! I will have to clean up my area
Linda B
where to start. It is different on each type of machine.
Amybeth D
Is one of the hat patterns for a thinking cap? I need one!
seejaneknit
I thought the cards could be interchangable - depending upon stitch size e.g 12 or 24
Linda B
Yes, it would be good to have a resource to tell you how to adjust different punchcards with other machines.
Marie-Jo C
It seems that many of us are interested in "no floats" garments ! A knit along could be a good idea, isn't it ?
Maria Ann Y
Can you talk about using Brother punch cards with a Studio machine please?
Wilma T
Yes, I know what you mean and have one, never used it though. It is like knitting a lining.
Gretchen F
Can you discuss patterning while shaping? As when you do a sleeve cap?
Beverly P
anyone ever use a Knit Master? Box instruvction states it is a thread guide for knitting a protective cover over fair isle floats for the Brother Standard Guage Ribbers...
Phyllis K D
Floatless fairisle sounds like a good subject for a live Knit Club session.
Dee Z.
I use sewing thread to tie down floats while doing large space patterns.
seejaneknit
Main carriage can handle 2 colors knit at the same time, for fairisle or single motif
Linda B
I'd love to see the floatless fairisle too
Phyllis K D
I have an intarsia carriage for both my bulky and mid-gauge. Love using it for abstract designs.
Leo B
I would like to know that technique. Ribber stitches to stop floats
Alison P
I think though some people call what you describe as intarsia... my manual calls it "single motif", though.
Wilma T
For intarsia you use a separate ball for each colour and cross them with the colour next to it, so no floats. Used to knit a lot of Disney sweaters in intarsia, duplicate stitching smaller parts
Joan W
I have an intarsia carriage which eliminates floats. I use it for kids garments with things such as a boat on the front
Leo B
Intarsia doesn't have floats and you don't have holes
seejaneknit
would not want to carry floats more than about 5 stitches
Amybeth D
Gretchen is right.
Alison P
Lots of different bits of yarn, laid over the needles manually. Would it help if I contact you off list and share what I do?
Alison P
I use intarsia for picture jumpers - often handknitting as well as machine. E.g. cartoon character.
Dawn W
Marie - how?
Gretchen F
Fair Isle the yarn is carried through the work, Intarsia you are using separate sources of yarn for each section
Maria Ann Y
intarsia eliminates the floats across the design
Elizabeth W
Lynn V - I agree that butterfly is an awesome design
Alison P
Isolated fairisle still has floats. Intarsia doesn't. Rose would be tough to do in what I know of as intarsia
Marie-Jo C
.. in your garment, sorry !
Marie-Jo C
The ribber is useful if you don't want floats is your garment
Lynn V
can I get the stitch card for that butterfly? It looks really
Alison P
Understood...
Emily S
is there a workshop on jacquard?
seejaneknit
Thank you!
Dee Z.
2 color with a punch card you'd just elongate the pattern double high
Dee Z.
I'm talking about double bed here
Dee Z.
The pattern shifts if you have multi-color - basically the design elongates to take into account each color
Alison P
But you need a ribber to do some... eg jacquard
Ellie C
I have a Singer 321 plus a great stash of cards from an Aunt, all in great shape.Still working out how to do it!
Denise W
Hi to you all, I'm Denise in the UK
Joan W
Can you please discuss Intarsia briefly please
