Any G-carriage experts?

Is it true that you can use ANY punchcard or stitch pattern with the g-carriage?

It's just a matter of knit stitch or purl stitch, hole or no hole.  Why would you need a special stitch pattern?

Or am I missing something?

As far as I know you can use any pattern - though some of them you wouldn't want to!  I think the reason for having some cards or electronic patterns which are labelled as "G Carriage" is that they are particularly suited to the combination of knit and purl stitches and many of them would NOT be suitable for other stitch techniques like Tuck or Lace.   I often design my own garter patterns or convert stitch designs from handknitting patterns.

Hi,  I have often used some tuck stitch patterns on the  garter carriage.  Some knitweave stitch patterns lend themselves to the garter carriage as do some fairisle patterns.
