Is there a way to hang a cast on comb without doing the main bed and ribber and zigzag etc.  I mean i just want to hang this extra weight on my stockinette couple of starting rows before i launch into electronic tuck stitching.  If not, does the regular way i just mentioned make a suitable closed edge for the edge of a sideways sweater or would it produce live stitches instead?

IMHO
  1. Use waste yarn and zip zag
  2. Hang the ribber comb
  3. Knit a couple of rows
  4. Knit 1 row of ravel cord
  5. Cast on with your main yarn using whatever method you prefer
An alternative:
  1. Main bed
  2. Waste yarn cast on over every other needle
  3. Hang the ribber comb
  4. Put all needles in work
  5. Knit a couple of rows
  6. Knit 1 row ravel cord
  7. Using main yarn, cast on with the method of your choice
