Yarn Weight

The term ‘yarn weight’ refers to the thickness of the thread, not the weight of the ball

The term "yarn weight" refers to the thickness of the yarn strand, not its actual weight or the weight of the ball. Since fibers vary in density, a yard of fluffy aran wool might weigh less than a yarn of 4-ply cotton, even though aran is considered the "heavier" yarn.
