Push notifications can be helpful—but they can also be overwhelming if you're not sure how to manage them. Here's how to take control of notification settings in your favorite browser so you're only alerted when it matters.

  • Click the lock icon in the address bar of a site.
  • Select "Site settings."
  • Find "Notifications" and choose:
    • Allow
    • Block
    • Ask (default)

Global Settings:

  • Visit chrome://settings/content/notifications
  • Toggle "Sites can ask to send notifications" off or manage site-specific settings.
Mozilla Firefox
  • Click the lock icon in the address bar.
  • Click the right arrow > "More Information" > "Permissions"
  • Find "Send Notifications" and change to Block or Allow.

Global Settings:

  • Visit about:preferences#privacy
  • Scroll to Permissions > Notifications and click "Settings..."
  • Remove sites or check "Block new requests asking to allow notifications"
Microsoft Edge
  • Click the lock icon in the address bar.
  • Select "Permissions for this site"
  • Under Notifications, choose Allow, Block, or Ask.

Global Settings:

  • Visit edge://settings/content/notifications
  • Manage site-specific permissions or disable notification prompts entirely.
Safari (Mac Only)
  • Open Safari > Settings (or Preferences) > Websites > Notifications
  • For each listed site, choose Allow or Deny.
  • To prevent future prompts, uncheck "Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications."
