I'm happy to share my techniques and yarns used in making this shawl. This is my first shawl I've made on the machine. I just got my standard punchcard machine (Taitexma which is a replica of Brother 860) this year and I really enjoy learning how to use it. I found your site while looking for related knitting machine subjects and it let me to this shawl contest.
I used a Lion Brand's yarn which I had ripped out from my previous hand knit shawl project because I didn't like the look and feel of it. The yarn had been sitting in a basket for years. I don't even know what the name of the yarn but it's all variegated in these pretty colors and. The yarn is too bulky to knit on my machine and I thought using knit weave technique would be a good alternative. The main yarn on the machine is a fine mixture of wool & acrylic.
The shawl is based on your fast & easy pattern. My tension setting was 7.
The shawl's top border is simply a 4 sts cable. The wavy edging with eyelets for the shawl body is also weaved with the same yarn using sew as you go method. The edging is very time consuming since I had to manipulate stitches with transfer tool on every row. But, the end result for me is worth it.

I used a 2x2 punchcard or electronic pattern stopped on 1 row to form 2x2 fair isle stripes. I mixed the colors as follows, using leftover sock and fingering yarns. I had two baskets, one of solids, the other of handprints, self-striping etc. I alternated picking yarns from each basket for the new color. It was fun to see how it turned out
