Skill Builder Exercises

Hi ,

The Goal of this Challenge

Want to add a beautiful, decorative edge to your machine knitting?

In this Skill Builder, we’re diving into picots—those tiny loops that give your projects a polished, lacy finish. You’ll learn two methods for creating picot hems and a picot bind-off technique.

Whether you’re new to picots or just looking to perfect your skills, these exercises will help you master the technique and build your confidence.

  • Add a Decorative Touch: Picots create those pretty little loops along the edges, giving your projects a delicate, polished finish without a lot of fuss.
  • Flexible, Stretchy Edges: Picot hems and bind-offs aren’t just for looks—they add stretch, making them perfect for cuffs, necklines, and baby knits.
  • Personalize Your Projects: Picots are an easy way to add flair. Use them on scarves, shawls, blankets, or even home decor to make your knits stand out.
In this challenge you will knit at least 3 swatches. Each exercise will use different skills that may be new to you.

  • Flat, no stitch transfer method
