00:21:34 Lyn Reese: you have to crawl before you can walk, much less run. amen |
00:21:41 nancy mangeri: I thought my Brother Hi-L AUTOMATIC knitting machine in 72.... |
00:22:43 Jean-User: That sounds so familiar! The best thing I ever did was take the basic machine course on Knit it Now. It made me sit down and learn everything about my machine BEFORE attempting anything else.....Just hang in there...it will all sort it out in your head and you will be thrilled at what you can do on your machine. |
00:22:44 Cindy M: I was surprised at my learning curve! I am such a Master hand knitter I thought it would be a breeze! I fumbled with the tools, dropped stitches, messed with settings blindly...now one year later-I am enjoying all of my projects and wearing the results! |
00:24:38 nancy mangeri: I thought it WAS automatic and the manual was not for my carriage... my husband read the manual to me and I did what he told me. You CAN master your machine, ONE STEP AT A TIME. Hang in there! |
00:25:06 Lyn Reese: first thing I made was a baby bunting with raglan sleeves, with help of distributor. made lots of garments in 80s, but now I have problems with binding off. just watch lots of you-tube and learning videos on Knit It Now's website and getting better |
00:26:19 nancy mangeri: Make the blanket!! you WILL learn a lot and have a finished project and not a bag full of swatches. |
00:29:52 Jenny: Been knitting for years but making the blanket is helping me learn my Option 4 machine better. |
00:34:17 Cynthia Price: I got my machine in the 80's and took lessons for wuite awhile. later i joined a mahiine knitting group and learned an awful lot there as well. then i got to busy and couldn't knit for years so no i am having to relearn all over again. now that i am having problems with my right hand, i am trying to do more machine knitting hoping it will be more gentle on my right hand. |
00:34:17 junehess: I have a hard time with PDF so I took it to a local printer and now have a bound copy. Love it. |
00:34:25 Marie-Jo: I used to find swatching a bit boring, but now I discover it can be a fine and useful moment ... |
00:36:05 Cindy M: It's important to change our attitude toward swatching-it is a great way to work things out on a small scale instead of in the middle of your sweater! |
00:37:19 nancy mangeri: swatching is THE place to try new cast on and bind off techniques. |
00:39:22 nancy mangeri: oh that thick/thin would would make a nice waterfall vest. |
00:39:54 Marie-Jo: .. and it is the best way to know our machines better! |
00:40:48 erinh: i did a bunch of different designs when i ot my machine had some much fun and amazed at the designs. Wished I would swacted them out and made notes of whan I was doing |
00:42:30 nancy mangeri: which yarn do you want to know about?ð |
00:43:02 Cynthia Price: I really learned a lot when i saw that video |
00:45:38 rittaK: how does it compare to Patons Grace? |
00:45:59 Cynthia Price: the video on the gauge rulers was so easy to understand and i could understand how they were to be used. i recommend it to everyoen. |
00:46:08 rittaK: Are you just making a cake to knit from on the machine? |
00:48:14 lesbale: Should I be Looking For a mid gauge |
00:50:15 nancy mangeri: invest in one ball of a better quality yarn as a treat, knit it up in swatches... make notes... fantasize about possible projects...note your ideas. |
00:51:04 erinh: My brother found my singer 560 in the trash |
00:52:38 erinh: gave him 50 for it cleaned it up bought dak works great |
00:53:22 nancy mangeri: yarn does get old use for charity work before it gets bad. |
00:53:22 Marie-Jo: The bulky machines have the opportunity of using a couple of hand knitting yarns, which are not always available for the standard machines.. That's the reason why I changed my Passap for a Brother 260 ! |
00:53:47 Jean-User: Even if the yarn is from the 80s you can still make great blankets with them and best of all the stash is used up. I shudder everrtime I think I might have to throw the yarn away because it is sooo old.... |
00:57:28 Jean-User: Actually I have tossed it and now I see how much room I have for new yarn...lol |
00:57:29 rittaK: please tell people to change to all panelists and attendees. |
00:58:02 nancy mangeri: befor bulky machines we used every other needle with 4 ply. |
00:58:46 Lyn Reese: are we going to do the map? |
00:59:09 nancy mangeri: I used every third needle on bulky to knit a eyelash yarn at a loose tension. |
00:59:29 Carol Ann: It fits fine, but is coming up much firmer than I want for a baby blanket. |
00:59:29 Jean-User: using every other needle...it will change the tension??? or not??? |
00:59:54 erinh: my sister picking me up some cone yarns at a store that doesn't nessarly sell yarn, I test it fell apart was so cheap I just threw it out. |
01:01:24 Lyn Reese: 7x9 blocks |
01:01:33 Cynthia Price: 7 by 0 inches not 7 by eleven |
01:01:57 Cynthia Price: 7 by 9 |
01:02:46 Lyn Reese: I can get the correct length but having trouble getting the width - still working on it |
01:03:23 knitknut87: Thank you Sue! |
01:03:57 Lyn Reese: really appreciate everything you do to help us get better |
01:04:14 MaryAnn: Thanks for another great show! |
