I am a mathematician…
Matthew F
Sorry that should have been Free for all Members
Cynthia Q
So, if you are making a large or long item, better to make a large bgauge and measure the middle after blobking andnthat will allow for some gravity because of the size/weight of the gaue?
Matthew F
The course is FREE for everyone!!!
Lena F
Funny because I thought maybe you were a math teacher in a former life!
Kate B
Awesome tool!
Kate B
Got it thank you
Karin R
yes
Cheryl D
yes thank you
Kate B
I'm sorry, I'm not understanding don't count stitches
Cheryl D
why doyou bother knitting with a second color
Karin R
With patterns, I usually just count the pattern repeats and multiply by the stitches/rows of the pattern, so I don´t have to disturb the pattern with another yarn or markers
Cynthia Q
Wouldn't you want to bind off, rather than scrap off so you have a finjshed end that won't unravel when washing and blocking?
Mary Ann B
When you weigh your swatch to determine the amount of yarn you need. Do you ignore the marker row yarn amount or is there an adjustment for that.
Marie-Jo C
gravity..
Marie-Jo C
If th knitting "rests" during a complete nignt, does the gravité still impact it?
Mary Ann B
That is what I have been doing and it has worked.
Karin R
another influence to avoid: felting if it´s wool... or in general how you wash it or mistreat it
Julie L
I always knit my coats about 2" shorter than I want them. They always "grow," so it's been a good rule of thumb.
S C
If you stop knitting for a while, do you keep the weights/bar on?
Mary Ann B
I sometimes have problems with the yarn at the edge of the piece not being tight enough.
Ruth S
...and old spring wires break.
Mary Ann B
I also have heard that the age of the spring wire will affect gauge. Older well used spring wires will loose strength.
Kate B
We don't wear our clothes laying down :D
Cynthia Q
if you domthe gauge for the weighted bottom, won't that make the top off? Doesn't that mean your gauge won't be correct for most of thenitem?
Kate B
I never thought about gravity! Thanks!
Karin R
wow never thought about knitting speed as an influence! thank you!
Joan W
I also often wind balls twice. The first time always seems tight given the way the yarn comes off the ball is erratic; second time is smoother.
S C
I think it was for tension in the ball
S C
I saw a couple of videos that recommend winding yarn into balls twice for better results
Maurie H
If you knit with a cone for the first part of the sweater, and then go to a ball yarn that you did with a yarn winder it makes a difference.
Karin R
I´m too lazy to use one hole per number, I just make two holes and leave the appropriate number of stitches between (one per hole number in gauge)
Cynthia Q
I don't thinkmyou stretch the rib. You need to know how many needles for the actual rib.
S C
Do you wet finish the swatch before storing with yarn?
Karin R
Yes ribbing is difficult to measure
Mary Ann B
Stretch the rib or not?
Cherie S
A "formal" swatch
Mary Ann B
I'm good with swatching lace and stitch patterns. But how do you measure a rib swatch?
Maurie H
I have noticed same yarn but different colour the swatch might come out differently.
Cynthia Q
Because I am so hesitnt, swatching does get me going to do th knitting.
Maurie H
Most time for blankets I do not swatch.
Scott V
Hi everyone . Scarfs you might be able to not swatchb
Karin R
I sometimes don´t swatch if it´ s a yarn I used with the same pattern in another colour, but sometimes different colours DO make a little difference in gauge....
Maurie H
Oui Marie-Jo
Marie-Jo C
Très bien, Mdaurie. Vous aussi, j'espère...
Jenny M B
I wasn't happy with a sweater in new yarn, then I washed it for the first time and it lost all the stiffness and became soft and lovely. I should have washed my swatch but the outcome was good.
Ruth S
Occasionally for afghans, with yarn I've used before.
Maurie H
Bonjour Marie-Jo comment va?
Marie-Jo C
Sorry, I'm late! Hello, Sue! Marie-Jo from Franche-compté, France

additional benefit of swatching: you can practice the stitch pattern you want to use in the garment
