After shaping necklines, adding neckbands is probably the most challenging part of machine knitting sweaters.
Let's dive into some tips for neckband perfection
  • How many stitches to pick up
  • 1 piece or 2 pieces
  • Getting the band to lie flat
  • Finishing options
  • Think outside the box

Vivienne F
I usually make a hem starting on waste yarn, then I present the neckband to the machine,2 sts on every needle, one row, cast off, and it looks like very neat backstitching.
Marie-Jo C

When using yarn from a skein that has been wound into a "cake", is it better to pull from the center or from the outside of the cake? Someone told me that pulling the yarn from the outside prevents twisting. Is that true?
Jeanette
I have seen someone making the neck band first, then grafting together the neckline and the band. Is there a time that that method would be the best way to go, or is it just preference?
