Bias in machine knitting and techniques to reduce it

Bias

Depending on the construction and fiber, some yarns will bias when knit. No amount of blocking will remove the bias.

Bias in machine knitting refers to the tendency of some yarns to skew or stretch diagonally, especially after knitting. This is a natural characteristic of certain yarns and can’t always be corrected by blocking.

Here are some tips to try to overcome bias
  • Carry a matching sewing thread
  • Try Plaiting
  • Use a stitch pattern
  • Knit a knit and purl pattern with your ribber
  • Knit looser
  • Use the yarn for Knitweave
  • Stripe with another (not-biasing) yarn
  • Use the yarn for hand knitting or crochet
