Gauge
Gauge is a measure of the number of stitches in a specific area.
Gauge is commonly measured:
- Stitches and rows PER INCH ~or~
- stitches and rows PER 4" (10cm)

Swatching is NOT Optional
NOTE:
The term "gauge" can also refer to the pitch of a knitting machine. For example a machine with needles that are 4.5mm apart is referred to as a STANDARD GAUGE machine
Common terms:
- 3.5mm = Fine Gauge
- 4.5mm = Standard Gauge
- 6 / 6.5 / 7 mm = Mid-Gauge
- 9mm = Bulky Gauge
