Grade the Tension

To help keep bands from "popping out" and laying flat against the body, it's common practice to "grade" the tension as you knit the band piece(s).

Grading tension (for bands)
For example:
  1. Pick up and hang the neckline edge
  2. Start knitting the band at the band tension
  3. Gradually REDUCE the carriage tension and knit to the turning row
  4. Knit the turning row
  5. Gradually INCREASE the tension until you are back to the band tension
