Isolated Motif
A single repeat of a stich pattern "isolated" on the knitting.
Isolated motifs are usually surrounded with a single color of knitting and care must be taken to prevent holes where color changes occur. (Similar to intarsia).
The alternative to an isolated motif is an
all-over stitch pattern (The motif is repeated over the entire knitted piece).
