Raglan sleeve style in machine knitting

Raglan

Raglan sweaters have no shoulder seam. The sleeve cap expands to the neckline to become the shoulder of the garment.

This popular sleeve style is a favorite of knitters.

The sleeve/armhole seams are often knit with decorative increases or decreases as a design feature.
An advantage of raglans over other styles is the fit. Because there are no shoulder seams to align with the shoulders they appear to fit a wider range of body types - wide or narrow shoulders.

Many knitters (both hand and machine) enjoy knitting raglan sweaters from the top down.
