Hung Hem technique in machine knitting

Hung Hem

HH

Pick up stitches to create double layer of knitting. See RHH | reverse hung a hem

Hung hems are a staple for machine knitters (especially for standard gauge machines) and they are a basis for many designer techniques.

They are a great alternative to ribbing.

  • Cast on and knit the depth of the hem
  • Knit a turning row
  • Knit the depth of the hem again
  • Re-hang the cast on edge to form the hem
  • Continue knitting
