I knit at a tight tension to make these very warm. I used a worsted weight yarn on my Brother KH230 bulky machine at carriage dial 4, ( the ribbing was done at a carriage dial of 3).
I grafter the top. Before I watched Sues’ videos I really didn’t know how to graft, but after knitting about 5 mittens, I learned to graft, and now even find it easy to do. I am originally a hand knitter and can use the Kitchener stitch on knitting needles with proficiency, so maybe that helped too.
As far as the ribbing goes, I doubled the rows because I like a long cuff, and I was able to plan the ribbing so it is hard to see the seam (Thanks to Sues video on planning ribbing).
I shortened the thumb opening ( I just placed the red marker 4 rows earlier than the pattern said to), because I like my mitten thumb more fitted. This project was a lot of fun.
